The United Arab Emirates hosted the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in November 2023.

‘This is an excellent opportunity to follow up last year’s Climate Change Conference. Norway and the UAE cooperate closely in efforts related to climate change and climate negotiations, the green transition, energy and the business sector,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

During the visit, agreements were signed between Norway and the UAE and between companies of both the countries, including an aviation agreement and an agreement between the University of Tromsø and Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi.

During the visit, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister were also able to discuss the situation in the Middle East in light of the multiple, ongoing crises.

‘The situation in the Middle East is very grave. The various crises are closely interlinked and are affecting the region as a whole. Diplomatic and political negotiations are more important than ever. Efforts to achieve a cease-fire and seek political solutions were also topics of discussion during the meeting with the Crown Prince,’ said Mr Støre.
